Ushuaia is claimed to be the most southern city in the world. It got its name from a Portuguese explorer named Ferdinand Magellan, who discovered South America’s southern tip from smoke where the natives used to keep fires going. This southern tip is also known as the Tierra del Fuego, the land of smoke. Ushuaia is surrounded by mountains and water, and is a pretty remote town, with a population of about 50,000 people.
